the face behind Katie’s cakes. I believe cakes help us mark the special moments in life – big and small. I’m grateful to be a part of these memories.

I began baking in college at Your Perfect Cake in Greenville, NC. After graduating, I stayed on as head baker for several years. It was there I fell in love with the creativity and joy-filled process of making such celebratory treats.

In 2020 while pregnant with first child, I starting baking again to fulfill pregnancy cravings. After neighbors and friends tried my cakes they encouraged me to start selling them. I started the business on a whim and it was an instant fan favorite in the neighborhood mom group. Since then I’ve never looked back.

Prior to becoming Katie’s Cakes, I hadn’t dabbled much in the decorating side of cake making. I have loved continuing to push myself and learn new techniques to add the custom flair that makes each cake unique.

A few fun facts about me:

  • I’m the mom of two young boys

  • I have always had a passion for making people feel included and helping to build communities

  • When I’m baking you’ll find me listening to audiobooks. I listen to 10-15 books a month – anything from fluffy romance to social issues

  • My sweet spot? Supporting public schools, especially the staff and teachers

  • I will drink iced coffee no matter the weather

I can’t wait to meet you!

FAQs

  • I do! All thanks to my neighbor whose baby was having dairy and egg allergies I made sure I could offer cakes everyone could have.

Disclaimer- I do my absolute best to limit any cross contamination however, I do create cakes in space with gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts etc, so nothing can be fully guaranteed. Do know that I bake and decorate cakes in order of most severe allergies to least, so someone needing vegan and nut free will know their cake will be made before other orders and boxed up asap. Please order at your discretion.

    I cannot accommodate soy free.

  • Unfortunately the answer is no. This is one area I won't be diving into.

  • I do! I offer delivery within 4 miles of Plaza Midwood, a fee outside of that radius or free pickup in Plaza. When selecting pickup I'll provide a time range for you to pick a 30 minute window that works for you. I do not offer deliveries on Friday unless there is a special circumstance.

  • This absolutely depends on the week/season. Typically my order calendar fills up about two -three weeks in advance. Just in case you are looking for a last minute order, I always close out my orders for the week on Tuesday/Wednesday so I know I'm going to be prepared for the weekend.  Historically I close for Thanksgiving and Christmas but that varies year to year.

  • Yes. Orders are not considered booked until they are paid. Once we have all the details firmed up I do require full payment, I often allow a 2-4 week period to pay the invoice I send depending on when you book. If you book the same week it is due immediately.

I do not offer any refunds unless I have to cancel the order. I will allow you to make one date change, but the date change will have to work for both parties.

  • All sorts! If you have an idea send it my way! I am continually learning new techniques and love incorporating them into your cake dreams! I lean heavier on buttercream icing designs rather than fondant work. I absolutely work with fondant but have found I really enjoy the process of handpiping, so my cakes tend to lean that direction.  I have invested in an edible image printer that allows me to add very detailed photo elements to your cakes, think business logo, your kid's face, your childhood home or even someone famous!

  • Nope! Under the cottage laws of home bakeries I cannot offer anything that requires refrigeration. Your cakes will be stable at room temperature for 2-4 days.
